Autoblogging Software Sucks…

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I ran across this headline recently in a popular online marketing forum. As I dug deeper I found similar comments posted by frustrated autobloggers. It prompted me to write this blog.

There is a popular but false notion that autoblogging, that is automated blog software, will by itself make you loads of money online. As an avid autoblogger I know that no software by itself generates online profits. The software is merely a tool that automates manual process that are generally tedious; i.e. writing and posting scores of niche related articles.

Since time is money and most Internet marketers are managing multiple projects and multiple sites, the choice of automation is pragmatic. However, there is more to making money with automated blogs than uploading a plugin or pulling RSS feeds.

The focus of this blog post will be how to make autoblogging work in the real world.

First let’s take a close look at the definition of autoblogging (a.k.a. automatic blogging, automated blogging, auto-blogging).

Here is a recent definition I pulled from Blog Blueprint

Generally speaking, auto-blogging refers to the process of creating blogs that are set up to have certain tasks done automatically. For instance, with auto-blogging you can publish focused content to your blog(s) as well as automate the task of creating back-links using services like bookmarking and RSS directories.

Here is another definition from Autoblogged.com, “Autoblogging is a great way to automate your WordPress posts so you can focus your efforts on earning money with your blog.”

And last, here is a quote from Auto Content Cash, “Many people will use these Auto Content Plugins… in combination with one another to easily create set-and-forget sites that can begin to increase daily cash flows.”

Suffice it to say that all autoblogging software programs do essentially the same thing, pull content from other sources. Some pull RSS feeds, others pull articles from popular article directories like Ezine Articles or ArticlesBase.com.

More advanced autoblogging software will even spin that content or translate it to another language and back to English creating unique content automatically.

But beyond these features, autoblogging software programs will not get your site top rankings in the search engines or drive traffic to your sites on their perse by themselves.

Keep in mind that all Sales Copy is designed to “Suspend Disbelief.”

Suspension of Disbelief is a formula for justifying the use of fantastic or non-realistic elements in literature.

According to Wikipedia, “The phrase “suspension of disbelief” came to be used more loosely in the later 20th century, often used to imply that the onus was on the reader, rather than the writer, to achieve it. It might be used to refer to the willingness of the audience to overlook the limitations of a medium, so that these do not interfere with the acceptance of those premises.

These fictional premises may also lend to the engagement of the mind and perhaps proposition of thoughts, ideas, art and theories.”

Here is an example of what I mean… headline2 Autoblogging Software Sucks...

Now according to the product creator, this software alone accounted for $45,833.37 in profits over the past 30 days.

The video caption reads, “”zero to $500 a day in 12 days…” Now the software is valued at $4997, but the next “X” purchasers can get it for just $37 ($27 on the exit downsell).

Also, there is a bold caveat soliciting “newbies” and “Beta Testers.”

Just to test the claims made by the creator, I purchased the software. It is in fact “beta” with lots of bugs.

In fact, I spent more time trying to get stuff to work than actually posting content. In theory the concept behind the software is sound, but the software just does not perform (at least at this point).

So the real question is, how would a newbie earn $5.00 let alone $500 using software that is still in the testing phase?

Furthermore, the creator doesn’t tell you that he has a list of over 40,000 subscribers!

Yet, if you check Clickbank for the gravity on this product, at the time of this writing, it’s over 300!

You see, most new marketers are quite frankly looking for a “magic bullet.” Let me tell you, it does not now exist and never has. It is a myth!

But check the back story of any successful online marketer and you will find it took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to reach their level of success.

The problem is most online marketers are lazy. And those that are willing to work hard are overcome by information overload…

Autoblogging definitely works as a platform for earning money with blogs and there are several top-notch plugins that are incredible at pulling, posting, spinning content as well as those that optimize WP blogs for the search engines.

That being said, autoblogs are no different than ordinary blogs when it comes to getting them ranked in the search engines or driving traffic to your offers. That still requires some work on your part.

In order to profit with Autoblogs you still need to perform:

1. Onsite SEO
2. Offsite SEO
3. Keyword Research
4. Set up Traffic Triggers, etc.

It is these essential elements which are often overlooked or not mentioned by the experts (“gurus”) that cause folks to believe that “autoblogging sucks.”

Recently I wrote a short guide, 7 Reasons You Should Be Using Automatic Blogs.

In it I listed 7 practical reasons autoblogging makes sense if you are marketing online with blogs. You can download a copy here: http://automaticblog.info/automaticblog_lp2.php

As a follow-up I created a survey of my subscribers who downloaded the guide. What I found was really astounding and unexpected. Click here to take survey

The vast majority of respondents are “internet beginners” (78% are newbies). 50% use WordPress blogs, but have little experience with autoblogging.

Staying focused, building a list and driving traffic were top concerns; but traffic is their #1 concern.

And only a few have created an automated blog.

As a result of the survey, I will be releasing a series of video tutorials specifically addressing the issues uncovered in the survey (focus, list building and traffic generation) and how autoblogging can be a valuable tool in overcoming these challenges.

When you download my FREE guide, you will automatically be placed in the queue to get access to the videos when I make them available after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Until then,

Happy Thanksgiving

Are you confused about automated blogging? Don’t be…

Recently I read a blog post on a popular How To blog titled,“6 Reasons Why You Should Avoid Automated Blog Tools.

Normally when I read posts like this, I just keep it moving. This time though, I decided to address the claims made by the author.

There is as much confusion today about auto-blogging as there are automated blogging systems and products. A lot of this confusion is based on conjecture and rhetoric.

Some of what you  may read is true, but the vast majority is false.

Most of the folks weighing in on the subject do not have auto-blogs or have failed in their attempt to make them work.

automated blogs do not have unique content.automated blogs have useless content. You cannot build trust with automatic blogs.Your automatic blog will get slapped by Google.Google will shut down your auto-blog.Automated blogs are only good for ‘short term’ success.

In response, I wrote a short guide that answers in detail each of the claims. This is all content.

blog network 300x241 Creating A Blog Network: 5 Common Blog Network Goals

Most people have a simple goal when building a blog network. That goal is to increase the earning potential of their money sites by building valuable high PR backlinks.

However, it all begins with setting goals.

The identifiers simply describe the goals/actions of your blog network and are given for simplicity sake. You can call your network whatever you want.

1. Indexing – Get new website pages indexed fast.

2. Link Boosting – Get your existing and new links indexed and increase their ranking power.

3. Keyword Boosting – Get your existing sites ranked higher for specific keyword phrases through direct linking

4. Niche Domination – Get the niche blogs themselves ranked highly for unique content and drive traffic from the blogs.

Keep in mind it is conceivable that your  network can  accomplish all these goals but to start you should prioritize based on your most immediate goals.

The first step is to decide on what your goal is for your network of blogs. Map it out on a yellow pad. Start with your “money site” and work backwards.

Get your blog ranked higher in the search enginesGet your blog indexed for buyer keywordsPosition your blog to dominate your niche

Do a search in Google for your main keyword/keyword phrase and see who your competition is. Use the Yahoo domain tool, site:domain.com to discover back-links to both your site and your competition.

How To Make Money With Autoblogs

If you have asked what is a auto blog, it is a website that offers large amounts of content just like a normal blog. The thing is, it is automated, and the content is not necessarily be made by the Blogger themselves. This means that it can use content previously published by other bloggers and webmasters. The great thing about this type of site is that it is automatically updated so that it runs on auto-pilot. This is made possible typically using plug-ins the and feeds that were recently published to identify relevant material, and point to your site.

One important thing to remember when it comes to your auto blog, to make your content is not free of plagiarism. If you have content from other bloggers and websites, make sure to give them the proper recognition. Do not delete the original links to the featured articles, posts and other content. Giving an attribution to the original author avoids any future claim of plagiarism.  This is a simple rule followed by most article directories. It's best also to filter the content. Choose the best and most relevant articles. Most of the better plug-ins allow you to post in draft first. This way you can see what you're getting before posting live articles. Both Google and your visitors will appreciate this small step.

In order to really promote your automated blog, you will need a quality plug-in that pulls good content, whether it is from RSS feeds or article directories. The more material, the greater the website. Auto Blog Samurai is an example of a plug-in that gives your autoblog, what it takes. Not only that, it will automatically give an attribution (keep the resource box) to the original author. SEO plug-ins for example can also help to bring higher hit rates from credible visitors and subscribers, and promote your website.

Now to make money, have your automatic blog syndicated and well monetized. Proper keywords are essential for getting site traffic. The credibility and accuracy of the content of your blog is linked to your keyword density. It should be 2%-3%.  If you have too many keywords, the chances are that the search engines may consider your site spam. Not enough keywords and the search engines will probably ignore your site.  The secret is balance. You need both on-site and off-site SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in order to achieve this. Pay attention to things like Title Tags (H1, H2,H3), bold text, italicized text, underlined text, alt-tags. All of these are components of on-site SEO.

Off site SEO consists of things like backlinks from other sites, especially autority sites in your niche/market. Other things to consider are social bookmarking, social media (Twitter, Facebook) and video (YouTube).

Join an online community and become a contributing member. This is an excellent way to become recognized as an expert and to drive targeted traffic to your blog. We all know that traffic equals profits. The more traffic the more advertising opportunities that exist. The Internet is no longer just a collection of faceless accounts. There are real people behind these accounts, and for you to succeed you will need to build relationships and trust with them. Develop good relationships with other bloggers and webmaster to help you promote your site. Soon you will even be able to sell advertising space on your automated blog, which is another source of great passive income.
